What’s actually going on
Humans evolved to notice danger. It is the gift all our ancestors gave to use because they were elite, extreme survivalists.
Our brains and bodies evolved over about 10,000 generations to hone in on data to indicate that we might be in danger.
In 2025 there are far fewer threats to loss of life than there were even 30 or 40 generations ago so our bodies can go into emergency survival mode when we notice events that actually are not a threat to life.
Those could be:
scary headlines
sensing an aggressive tone in a DM
aggressive traffic behavior
remembering a difficult thing you’ve experienced
We can put ourselves into emergency survival mode just by noticing something difficult in our environment.
Right now, if you are tuned into news and politics in the US, there is an abundance of data that tells you how scary the world is, how unpredictable it is, and how it is time to look out for danger.
That may have caused you to live in your emergency survival mode.
When we live in that mode, we cannot do what we are here to do, we can only survive.
